#Positively Stressed - Week 21

Being a parent is incredibly stressful – and anyone who says otherwise either is in denial or hasn’t done it.

As I shared in Episode 8 of the podcast, I’ve been blessed with a highly intelligent daughter. That alone is enough to keep me on my toes. But what makes it even more interesting? She knows how smart she is – and that is next-level parenting stress!

She memorized all 50 states (names, shapes, AND locations) before the age of 3. She can beat me at board games meant for kids twice her age. (for the curious it was Labyrinth at age 4)

Of course I’m proud and excited – but when that brilliance shows up every day, the parenting challenge becomes: How do we keep her intellectually engaged while also navigating the usual 4-year-old drama?

This is in addition to the daily fights including the great “chicken nuggie” standoff, morning meltdowns over going to school, or public negotiations for yet another stuffed animal (no, she doesn’t need #58)

So yes, I know that I’m stressed. But I also know this – I’m blessed to be having these kinds of problems.

These aren’t just stressors, they’re invitations to grow. They’re the reason I show up every day trying to be the best dad I can be.

And that is why I am #PostivelyStressed.
