A busy Life
Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day, but I think I would simply sleep those hours away. That is why I have found it so important to make time to unwind and relax. Writing is one of the things I like to do during that time it’s a wonderful way for me to process my thoughts and emotions, as well as time to put the world away for a little while. I will also say this isn’t always easy. Depending on what I have going on, when I do make time for myself, my mind won’t let me. My head will fill with racing thoughts about all the things I should be doing or ways that I could be productive instead. I’m sure many of you have felt this way at some point in time, and some more than others too.
And it’s not like I am not busy, or I don’t have things going on. I have a full-time job, I run a business, design new products, manage all the socials and website, write, do video editing, graphic design, and more. It seemingly never ends. So how do I get myself to relax for a while? Schedule it. The busier I have gotten the more I have had to rely on a calendar and understanding that taking time to relax or have fun is in fact something productive, then schedule it. It’s easier to accept the idea that fun can be productive if it is something that you dedicate time to ahead of time.
It won’t be easy, expect to struggle with the previously mentioned issue of racing thoughts tell you that this is a waste of time. The results will only be noticed in hindsight. If you are struggling with those kinds of thoughts, then shorten your play time and slowly increase the time allotted as your mind allows for it. Short, positive experiences are what you should aim for at the start. It can be difficult to fend off those thoughts for hours at a time, start with 10 or 15 minutes. You don’t even have to leave your desk if you don’t want to. Go on Google and play Snake, or read a book for a bit, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Just something to do that isn’t reality can be all someone needs to give them an extra boost to get through the day.
So why do I say all of this? Well, this is something that I have struggled with, and worked on, and still struggle with from time to time. I can’t imagine I am the only one. So, let’s talk about it. What kinds of things do you do to relax? How do you put the world away? What do you do when you can’t stop thinking there are other things that I should be working on?
